ANNOUNCEMENT

In my last email I hinted at some changes in NYCmg
and I made an announcement at the meeting.

I have been an east coaster for 46 years. 18 of those doing motion graphics watching the sun rise somewhere over the Atlantic. Starting in October, I'll be seeing the sun rise over Mt. Rainier and set behind Puget Sound.

I have accepted a challenge and a great opportunity to build a motion graphics team and studio with the Belo Corporation in Seattle. As Design Director for

KING 5 (NBC)

KONG 6/16 (IND)

NorthWest Cable News

and Belo Interactive NW attending NYCmg.org meetings is going to prove difficult. But, you can look in on me via the Space Needle Web Cam from time to time. Just zoom in 2 clicks, and aim the camera down @ 75º NE. You can't miss the helipad on the roof. Check out the station tour

..CONTINUED

I took over the reins of the group from Brian Maffitt when he started up Total Training. A non-profit labor of love, I can honestly say I've gotten much more out of NYCmg.org than I ever put in to it.

I met Jeff Kryvicky after the last meeting of the then: NYC After Effects Users Group. With his help, web knowledge, and friendship we took a big step forward and evolved into NYCmg. We held several meetings at the NYC Public Library's Donnell Media Center. But after 9/11, it seemed near impossible to hold independent meetings which could explore the widening spectrum of motion graphics with out asking members to open their wallets wide.

Adam Rackoff, the time Apple Retail Store Theater Manager, contacted us and asked if we'd be interested in holding our meetings in the Apple Theater. We accepted. I very much want to publicly thank Adam Rackoff, Frank Bonomo, and the staff of the Apple Store for being there for us. They have gone out of their way to allow us to do what we wanted in their space and therefore instrumental in the growth of our organization.

So, what's next. I am very happy to say that NYCmg will continue to move forward. Jeff and I have asked Yan Shvalb to come on board and co-host future meetings. Yan has tons of practical demo experience, is a fantastic source of info, and has industry contacts second to none. He and Jeff will continue to hold NYCmg. meetings at the Apple Store on the first monday of every month. Next meeting is Oct 3rd with SYNTHEYES Software and more info to come.

In closing, I want to say thanks to everyone for participating and hope that you continue to support NYCmg and share your work, experience, and insights at the meetings.I'll be staying involved on the busniess side for a while and keep your ears open, I plan to develop a Seattle based group.

Stay in touch.
